Stucco Defects

Improperly mixed or applied stucco to your home leads to unsightly cracks which allow water to intrude into your home.  Often, stucco will be too thinly applied or not properly embedded in the lathe (chicken wire) underneath it.  Bad stucco will crack, chip, crumble, and fall off of your home.  Any of these symptoms are a warning sign that your stucco may have been improperly mixed or applied.  Builders will try to convince you that stucco cracks are "normal" or just the house "settling". Don't be fooled-- its your house, not theirs.

The stucco subcontractor is also responsible for installing building paper underneath the stucco and for properly installing flashing paper around door, windows, and other penetrations.  Improper application of the building paper underneath the stucco, or piercing it with nails and staples during the construction process, compromise your home's intergity and allow for water intrusion into your home.  Improper installation of flashing around doors and windows is an invitation to water intrusion and disaster.

Water intrusion around windows and doors of your home are good indication that the exterior "skin" of your home is defective.  Water intrusion will lead to mold growth and contamination that will affect your ability to safely live in your home.
